A patient admitted at the Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital tragically died over the weekend after he allegedly committed suicide.

In a brief interview with Mmegi Online, the Ministry of Health (MoH) spokesperson, Dr Christopher Nyanga, confirmed the death of the patient. “We can confirm that we have a suspected suicide case that took place at Sbrana Psychiatric Hospital two days ago,” Nyanga revealed. Nyanga further stated that the case has since been reported to the relevant officers to further investigate what happened. “The incident has been reported to the police and the investigations have been instituted to establish what happened,” he said. Asked if the suicide was a case of negligence by the staff at Sbrana, Nyanga said investigations are at an infancy stage. “At this point, we are unable to make any further comments lest we prejudice the said investigations,” Nyanga concluded.
