A state witness in a case in which convicted rapist, Goitsekgosi Mojadigo, is facing yet another rape charge has narrated to court how the disgraced pastor would sexually assault a 13-year-old complainant in Francistown.

Mojadigo, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence for a rape offence, is entangled in yet another rape trial, this time around involving a teenage girl whose names have been withheld. The witness, Junior Malibela, told Village Magistrate’s Court that the accused would caress the minor, touch her breasts, thighs and tummy. Taking the stand today before Senior Magistrate Tshepo Thedi, the 18-year-Malibela said his suspicions started when he moved to the complainant’s house with her mother (names withheld). “Mojadigo was my pastor at Divine Anointing International Church in Francistown and when I passed Form 3, he asked that I move to their mission house in Block 9 but would later ask me to move to Donga. This is where I stayed with the (mother) and her two kids the complainant as well as a 10-year-old,” the witness said. Malibela stated that was when he started asking himself questions and wondering what kind of a pastor Mojadigo was that would caress a child. Visibly appalled by the alleged acts of Mojadigo, Malibela walked away from the dock to sit by the court clerk’s bench to demonstrate how the accused would treat the complainant. “When he came over, he would pray and touch the young girl inappropriately, touch her breasts and call her ‘Spoonokie’. He would sit on a chair, caressing her,” he said. “I was surprised that a whole pastor would touch a 13-year-old like that.” The witness further told the court that this is all not hearsay, but what he was saying was what he saw with his own eyes. He highlighted that, this act occurred more than once during his stay there. “He touched her in my presence. I remember one day he bought Jackson, some pastor a phone and he called the complainant, put her on his thighs. He then told her how much he had missed her,” Malibela narrated. On the same day, Malibela said Mojadigo took matters to another level when sent the mother of the complainant to the shops while the accused remained behind with the complainant. “He asked the 13-year-old girl to go and bath while he said to me, I shall go and wash the dishes but surprisingly they were clean. I was confused by the guy and wondered what his intentions were,” he said. “I saw the complainant bathing through a broken window and Mojadigo at the time, he was in the bedroom.” However, he told the court that when the girl finished bathing, his suspicions grew louder when Mojadigo asked the child to go to the room with him. “When she finished, he came to the sitting room, took Vaseline and said the young girl should massage him. He closed the passage door and she just followed him. They took long in the room, I don’t know how long,” Malibela said. He revealed that the acts continued as Mojadigo would ask her on Sundays when everyone was going to church to remain behind to iron for him. In cross examination, Mojadigo seized the opportunity to pose questions to the witness if at any point did he catch her and the complainant with their pants down. The witness responded by saying no. Mojadigo further asked him if he ever reported his suspicions to anyone and Malibela responded by stating no. He further asked him if the complainant ever told him, she was being raped, the witness said no. Mojadigo concluded his cross examination there. After listening to all sides, the court was adjourned to July 14 for continuation of trial.

Batswana need to do better to stop FMD

It is a clear signal that the government’s purse is empty and that our own behaviour has left veterinary officials fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. We have been here before. During COVID-19, many of us thought we knew better. We ignored simple rules, we carried on as if the danger was someone else’s problem, and the virus took lives and left our economy on its knees. We are still broke from that experience. Yet now, with FMD...
