SELEBI-PHIKWE: Councillor for Botshabelo North, Mmopiemang Basebi has intensified calls for the inclusion of previously deferred community development projects in the forthcoming Urban Development Plan 5 (UDP 5), warning that continued omission risks undermining public trust in participatory planning processes. His concerns stem from the failure to implement several key projects that had been prioritised under UDP 4, but were shelved due to financial constraints.

Amongst these are the construction of Mekoro Clinic, Mekoro Primary School, and the long-anticipated upgrading of Botshabelo Clinic to a level one hospital.

According to Basebi, these projects were not arbitrarily selected but emerged from extensive consultations with residents during kgotla meetings—forums that form the backbone of Botswana’s grassroots democratic engagement.
