The 2024 Botswana General election will be held October 30th.
This has just been confirmed by the President Mokgweetsi Masisi in a telecast on social media.
“The general election will take place Wednesday October 30th 2024. Both October 30th and 31st will be public holidays,” Masisi said.
Masisi continued: “The nomination of Presidential candidates is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th 2024, to be held at the Gaborone high court. Additionally, nominations for both Parliamentary and council candidates will occur on Friday October 4th 2024.“
Meanwhile dissolution of the 12th parliament of Botswana will be September 5th 2024, setting the stage for the upcoming general elections.
“On the same day I will issue a writ of election, instructing that these elections take place across all 61 constituencies in the Republic of Botswana. Section 90.3 of the Constitution stipulates that general election must occur within 60 days following dissolution of Parliament.” Masisi said.
