A 26-year-old man was discovered hanging from a tree in the bush behind Sir Seretse Khama Barracks on Saturday, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.

The discovery was made by a passerby who immediately alerted the police. Mogoditshane Police Station commander, Superintendent Mbiganyi Letsholathebe, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the man's death, as no suicide note was found at the scene.

Letsholathebe said the man was rushed to Julia Molefe Clinic, where he was certified dead on arrival.

“His corpse remains in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem. We have since established that his mother resides in Mmopane,” he said.

The senior police officer expressed concern over the rising number of suicide cases, noting that men continue to dominate the statistics. He urged members of the public, particularly men, to seek help when overwhelmed by personal challenges.

“Suicide brings trauma and pain to the family members who are left behind. We plead with people to learn to open up and seek assistance when troubled,” he said.

Police investigations into the matter continue.
