Despite the defeat in the recent Kgalagadi South by-election, the political parties that contested have accepted the results gracefully. In interviews with representatives and some candidates, there was a shared sentiment that the elections were conducted fairly and that all parties had campaigned hard to secure victory.

The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) executive secretary, Ame Makoba, acknowledged the outcome whilst emphasising the party’s resilience. “We accept the results, though we had hoped to win,” Makoba said. “Remember, we just lost power, but we fought, and the numbers clearly show that the BDP remains strong. Our members must toughen up, stay motivated, and continue working hard.”

For the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), candidate Tshepang Brooks also expressed satisfaction with the party’s performance. “It has been a long time since my party contested in this area,” he said. “We have done well, and these results show that the party has the potential to grow and establish a stronger presence in Kgalagadi South.”
