The Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture (MYSC), Tumiso Rakgare has said South African consultants, Ruben Reddy Architects provided the logo for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals bid.

Rakgare, speaking at the official launch of the logo in Gaborone this week, said the cost of the logo design was included in the P61 million paid to the consultant for the compilation of the bid book.

The logo was designed by experts who were engaged by the consultant in South Africa. Rakgare said the logo showcases the heritage sites of Botswana that include the world-famous Okavango Delta. “The logo drew inspiration from among others one of UNESCO-listed world heritage sites, the ever-amazing Okavango Delta,” Rakgare said.

“The logo also represents the diamonds here in Botswana which is one of the leading contributors towards the economy. The dunes of the Kgalagadi region are also represented in this logo not to forget our country’s unique arts and crafts,” Rakgare said. The logo also put fans into consideration, as they are the pillars of the whole movement, the minister noted. “The logo continues to represent an element without which sport would never be exciting; I’m talking about the passionate Botswana fans,” he said.

The heritage sites are represented by the bright colours found in the logo. The logo, which is shaped almost like a heart, has four colours combined. Okavango Delta is represented by the blue colour, which is considered to be a representation of water. The rosy brown colour represents the dunes found in the Kgalagadi region.

The Minister indicated the electric colour on the logo represents the country's mainstay; diamonds. After unveiling the logo, Rakgare implored citizens and the media to rally behind the bid as he said the bid was for the good of the country. Rakgare together with the bid technical committee, is expected to leave soon for Ivory Coast, Abidjan to lobby CAF delegates. “We will be going to Abidjan for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Annual General Meeting and we will be hoping to continue to sell Botswana’s ambitions to other CAF members,” the minister said.
