Open up more about 2028 AFCON bid

Botswana’s emerging interest in hosting the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) presents an important opportunity but only if those behind the bid provide clear information.

To date, public details have been sparse, which risks dragging the bid back into the dark days of the 2027 botched effort which gave birth to all sorts of conspiracy theories, which remain unresolved up to this day. A more transparent approach is essential, particularly that some had rubbished the 2027 bid as unreasonable at the time. There is need to build confidence and lay out a clear plan that has the nation's buy in.

First, operational readiness depends on early, concrete planning. Hosting AFCON requires stadiums that meet Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, adequate training facilities, transport infrastructure, accommodation, and security arrangements.
