Weak mental strength fails Kalavango

OTSE: Kalavango women team coach Makgetle Gareanna has said that his players need to grow psychologically to be able to beat teams like Mafolofolo and Kutlwano.

His remarks followed his side's 3-1 defeat by Mafolofolo in a Mascom Volleyball League match on Saturday. The win means that Mafolofolo maintains its lead at the summit of the league with 21 points. Both sides went into the match under pressure after finishing 2-2 in their previous matches that were aborted because of darkness. After starting the game very well, Kalavango let it slip just like they did in the aborted game.  Gareanna said his side usually starts well against experienced sides but their mental strength usually fails them as the game progresses.
"Today I think they just lost concentration," he said after the match. After losing the first set 25-23, Kalavango put up an impressive fight to clinch the second set 26-24.The evergreen Andriano Ndambo and Lizzy Gasekgonwe made Mafolofolo life a living hell. The duo was, as usual, marvellous to watch in the top of the table clash. However, that was shortlived. After leading the third set with a convincing margin, Kalavango allowed Mafolofolo to come back to win the set 26-24.

The Steinmetz sponsored team squandered another golden opportunity in the third. Although it matched Mafolofolo pound for pound, Kalavango still seemed to lack the mental strength to stop a team that has three national players. Mafolofolo continued where they left off in the third set, winning the fourth set 25-21.Attackers Tsholofelo Retshabile and Dipolelo Chidzala combined well to lead their side to victory.
