Old Naledi Police Station has revealed that no fatalities have been recorded following last night’s collision involving a train and a truck at a level crossing.
Acting Station Commander Mike Gaoboe has told Mmegi Online that the accident occurred after 9pm when the train was setting off to South Africa (SA). Gaoboe stated that preliminary investigations have established that the truck belonged to retail giant, Choppies. “The truck that collided with the train was on its way to Commerce Park when the accident occurred and we believe that this truck belongs to Choppies,” he said.
Despite the magnitude of the accident involving two heavy machines, Gaoboe highlighted that the two drivers escaped the accident with no injuries.
“Only the goods from the Choppies truck were damaged, but there was no damage to the train and luckily no one was injured in the process,” Gaoboe said.
The officer in charge stated that after receiving a call-in about the accident, they immediately dispatched a team to the scene. Gaoboe took the time and opportunity to advise them to always abide by the road rules so that their lives can be protected.
