Rollers boss avoids 'suicide'

Township Rollers managing director, Somerset Gobuiwang, says revealing his plans for the new season is akin to committing suicide.

Hence he is tight-lipped about what the club is doing in the transfer market. He has declined to reveal how many new players the club has registered since the transfer window opened. Gobuiwang said it would be suicidal for him to let competitors know how much progress he has made in the transfer market let alone his recipes for success in the new season. The departure of Boitumelo Mafoko and Joel Mogorosi to South African giants, Orlando Pirates, has left some Rollers' supporters in a state of panic. They  wonder if Rollers will get good replacements before the start of the new season and the prestigious Coca-Cola Cup campaign.

"We have not completed the list of players that we need to register for the new season. The players that we have so far registered are those who played in the Kabelano Charity Cup, but we are still looking for more quality players to reinforce our squad," Gobuiwang said. The shrewd businessman would not be drawn into discussing which player the club is targeting. "We have capable players at Rollers and while we highly valued his (Mafoko's) contribution to the team during the time when he was with us, we also believe that the other players we have are capable of doing the job," Gobuiwang said. He declined to discuss the fate of defender, Thebe Maiketso who is reported to have deserted the team to start negotiations with Lobatse giants, Extension Gunners, for a possible transfer. Rollers are reported to be angry with Maiketso's disappearing act. At some stage, the player was said to be heading back to his former club BMC, but Gunners' coach, Daniel 'Chicco' Nare, is reported to have convinced him to join Mapantsula. Gobuiwang could not say how far they had gone with the transfer of BMC goalkeeper, Cosmos Lombala.
