Rakhudu punches her way to glory

Keneilwe Rakhudu made history during the recent Africa Zone VI championships when she became the first local woman boxer to win a gold medal in an international tournament.

This was also the first time women boxers traded blows in the regional boxing championships.The light welterweight division boxer did not disappoint as she qualified for the finals where she demolished her opponent, Mozambique's Angela Jose Augusto.Speaking about the tournament, Rakhudu admits it was bit scary for her at first. 

"I didn't know how my opponent was. But when I went into the ring, I knew that it meant business," she says, adding that she wants to qualify for next year's Commonwealth games."I am also targeting the next Olympics," she says.The 19-year-old started boxing when she was doing Form IV at Gaborone Secondary School in 2010."At the time I realised I was overweight so I decided to train as boxer," she declares.
