Mmegi soccer club, Kakapa, won its first silverware when it emerged tops in a two-day four-team tournament organised by Gaborone City Council (GCC) soccer club at Mma-Masire Grounds in Gaborone West last weekend.

Mmegi started on a low note when it fell 4-2 to GCC on Saturday morning. Lebonyemang 'Boyo' Temogo and Kagiso Sekokonyane scored the consolation goals for the Marupula side. Kakapa bounced back in the afternoon when they humiliated Central Medical Stores (CMS) 8-2. Temogo was among the goalscorers as he netted a hat-trick.

The win proved crucial especially when GCC were held to a 1-1 draw by Builders Merchants Botswana (BMB) on Saturday. On Sunday, Kakapa overcame BMB 3-2 in a thrilling game. Earlier, BMB hammered CMS 8-0. But in the afternoon, CMS shocked the many people in attendance when they held favourites GCC to an exciting 3-3 draw to allow Kakapa to win the tournament with six points. GCC were second with five points followed by BMB third with four points. CMS finished last with one point after conceding 19 goals.
