Giants eye BRU league final berths

Wharic Park in Gaborone will be turned into a battlefield as four teams go head-to-head in the Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) league semi finals tomorrow. The first game that will be between defending champions, University of Botswana (UB) Rhinos and Botswana Defence Force (BDF) Cheetahs.

Kick-off is at 2 pm. The second semi-final will be between EMG Gunners and Gaborone Hogs. The game is also expected to be a thriller and kick-off is 4pm.Rhinos spokesperson, Lesedi Keekae told Mmegi Sport this week that they are all fired up for the encounter. He explained that when the league started, their main aim was to defend the cup that they won last year and they intend to keep it for a long time. He warned that they would not allow Cheetahs to snatch away their dream.Keekae said the players are exuding confidence ahead of the game where fireworks are expected to fly, adding that they are injury-free.

"You must also realise that we had eight players in the Vultures squad that recently played in the World Cup qualifications. We expect those players to utilise the skills they learnt from the national team camp to win us the match," he said.Cheetahs' official, Fani Mokhondo said they expect little resistance on their way to the league final. He pointed out that despite having some injuries in the camp they are not worried.He explained that whenever the two sides meet, they play good rugby and it is only the last whistle that decides the winner.Mokhondo also noted that they are also eyeing the league title and they will work to win the encounter. He admitted that Rhinos is not an easy side to beat but the intention is to walk away with the maximum points.Gunners' spokesperson, Modesto Mazambe said they are ready to take on Hogs. He noted that in the first round, Hogs demolished them but they managed to redeem themselves in the second round. He stated that with the arrival of Victor Lijini, Abel Segootsane, Kabelo Ngwako and Yamorena Monyatsi from Sharks, they expect to pull a victory on Saturday. "We intend to redeem our 2009 pride when we won the league. "Gunners started the league back-pedalling but we managed to put our house in order in the second round. We have a score to settle against Hogs," said Mazambe.
