Chiefs 1 (Joel Mogorosi 56)
ECCO City Greens became the first team to reach the finals of the inaugural Mascom Top 8 Cup following a 1-1 draw with Mochudi Centre Chiefs at the Molepolole Sports Complex on Saturday.

Mamoja-Diskie booked a place in the finals through an away goal rule used in the double elimination knockout tournament.
The two sides drew 0-0 in the first leg semi-final match played in Francistown a fortnight ago. The Francistown side got into the match knowing that scoring a goal would be crucial for their efforts to remain in the lucrative cup competition carrying a price money of P1 million. Ahead with a cracker from outside the box but side netted. The visitors then had their chance;Patrick Lenyeletse breaking through the Chiefs defence only for his hooked shot  to narrowly miss with Chiefs' goalkeeper Mompoloki Sephekolo way out of his line. ECCO took control of the match midway through the first half, but failed to utilise many chances they created. It was looking like the game will go into the halftime  break without a goal when Trinity Nko sent a low powerful drive from inside the box that was redirected by Thabiso Khunwane into his own net to give ECCO the deserved lead.  After the break, Chiefs introduced Galabgwe Moyana for Michael Mogaladi to bolster their attack. Joel Mogorosi, who was closely guarded by Emmanuel Nlu and colleagues in the first half found the equaliser for Chiefs as he calmly headed in a swift cross by Pontsho Moloi. The latter had done some excellent work eliminating the defenders. Mogorosi would bluff another good opportunity when set by Dirang Moloi inside the box.  ECCO goalkeeper, Chamunorwa Madamombe pulled what was probably the best save of the game denying Mogorosi from close range following a corner kick. ECCO players looked to be comfortable with a draw and started performing some time delaying tactics towards the end of the half. The match got a bit rougher in the last 15 minutes as Chiefs were desperate to turn around the score, while their opponents were keen to just wound the clock. The move however, nearly backfired for ECCO as the match officials added 11 minutes of injury time. Mogorosi missed two more close headers in the last minutes of the match as ECCO went into jubilation marking their first cup final appearance since 2007.

Line-ups:
Chiefs: Sephekolo-Mpoeleng Mpoeleng, Elvis Meleka, Motlhabankwe, Arnold Chaka-Mogaladi (Moyana 55), P. Moloi, Khunwane, D. Moloi (Godfrey Ngele 85), Mogorosi-Kekaetswe Moloi

Batswana need to do better to stop FMD

It is a clear signal that the government’s purse is empty and that our own behaviour has left veterinary officials fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. We have been here before. During COVID-19, many of us thought we knew better. We ignored simple rules, we carried on as if the danger was someone else’s problem, and the virus took lives and left our economy on its knees. We are still broke from that experience. Yet now, with FMD...
