The inaugural volleyball league awards ceremony will be held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) tonight. The ceremony is held to reward outstanding individuals and clubs last season.

It is organised by the Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) with sponsorship from mobile phone service provider, Mascom. Male and female players will compete in five categories each.Kalavango's Monica Alfred dominates the female awards with four nominations. Alfred's nomination does not come as a surprise after an outstanding season. In the race for best attacker, she faces stiff competition from the ever-improving, Nono Reetsang of Mafolofolo. Reetsang has been nominated in two other categories. Another contender for best attacker is Kutlwano's Masego Hosea, who has also had a dream season leaving the judges with a tough decision to pick the winner. Both Reetsang and Alfred showed tremendous improvement in the past year. But the evergreen Hosea might have an edge. The lanky attacker has always been a pillar of strength for Kutlwano and hardly disappoints.

The towering Alfred has been short-listed for best blocker where she competes against Game Rakgabo of Mafolofolo and BDF VI's Keitheng Ngoreng. Kelebogile Mahupela, Lekedzani Bayi and Onami Tupani are the nominees for the best setter. Alfred and Hosea will compete against BDF VI's Gloria Malapa in the best server category. Reetsang, Hosea and Alfred have also been nominated in the best scorer category.
