BDF XI publicity officer, Spencer Kesebonye, said that their negotiations with the former Gaborone United (GU) and ECCO City Greens tactician are at an advanced stage. "For now, I cannot say that we have appointed him because there are certain issues that need to be ironed out. But all we know is that Prisons XI have indicated that they will not be renewing his contract," he said. Kesebonye told Mmegi Sport that they had to settle for Mwaanga as they were impressed by his CV. Mwaanga is said to be one of the most knowledgeable coaches in Botswana football, though he has not achieved much. His lack of success has been attributed to the fact that he has never been given a chance to show his class at the big sides. During his stint at GU, the Reds used to play attractive football before he was sacked under controversial circumstances.
At BDF XI Mwaanga takes over from Stanley Tshosane who has been hired as national team head coach. Mwaanga is expected to start work on August 1 to guide BDF XI in the upcoming Coca-Cola Cup games. He takes over a team that avoided total relegation to First Division soccer through a convincing display in the Premier League promotion play-offs. Ironically, Mwaanga was in charge of the Prisons XI side that was crushed twice by BDF XI in the play-offs.
