Response to 'BDP, BNF, BCP got it wrong'

Thank you Mmegi for this opportunity to share my views with other readers across the world.

I would like to respond to Temba Joina's opinion on Mmegi which was titled "BDP, BNF, BCP got it wrong" on July 6,2008 Joina is criticizing the government of Botswana, and the local opposition parties for the stance they have taken concerning our neighbor Zimbabwe. He mentions that after the March elections in Zimbabwe, he and his organization called on the Botswana government to use its influence and exert pressure on Robert Mugabe to declare a state of emergency, recall the old parliament and amend the constitution and the electoral law.

First, I would like to remind this gentleman that the fact that the government of Botswana did not take his advice, and that the run-off election in Zimbabwe was a sham, does not necessarily mean his advice was right. Actually, I personally believe his advice was not feasible at that time, when one closely examines the Zimbabwean situation .
