Youth frenzy as UDC sweeps Gaborone

There was nothing ordinary about these past weekend’s general elections, especially where Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) was on fire.

For one, the youth voted in large numbers in different areas. Botswana’s young and first time voters so well organised to a point that they had their own registration book to ensure that indeed they do vote.  In the Gaborone Bonnington North, which the Umbrella for Democratic Party president, Duma Boko won with high numbers, by 2pm on Friday, the Limkokwing polling station, the youth registration card was showing that 75% of them had voted.

The same was happening at Morula, Marulamantsi and other wards in the Gaborone Bonnington South constituency, utterances such as “Re tsile go ba tanta”, were common.
