A twice murder-accused 36-year-old man has been arraigned for yet another heinous crime, rape.

Tshepiso Letsididi appeared before the Mogoditshane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on a charge of rape. According to the latest charge sheet, he is accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim (name withheld) without her consent on or about May 20, 2021, in Mmopane, Block 1. The prosecution revealed a grim history, telling the court that Letsididi already has two pending murder cases before the High Court, along with two additional rape cases and a robbery charge. The alleged murders, reportedly committed in 2017 and 2024, are currently pending before the Gaborone High Court.

Continuing to paint the accused’s criminal track history, the state further revealed to the court that a robbery charge is before the Molepolole Magistrate’s Court, and another rape case is pending at the Mochudi Magistrate Court. As if this weren't enough, the court heard that Letsididi is also facing another newly registered rape case, yet to be formally served. The state argued for an extension of Letsididi's remand, labelling him a habitual criminal with a dangerous propensity for committing serious offences. For his part, Letsididi maintained his innocence. In the end, the presiding magistrate, Gofaone Morweng postponed the matter to August for a formal bail hearing. The case continues.
