NED Councillor Praise SHHA

FRANCISTOWN:North East District Council (NEDC) legislators have praised the Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) for it has benefited their district thus scooping an award on it.

With houses being built all around NED, councillors could not stop gushing about how SHHA has done wonders in the district. In an interview with The Monitor, Siviya councillor Bakani Badziili said that he is grateful that the residents are using the SHHA initiative to build homes for themselves."This initiative is mostly benefiting people who are earning salaries of P3,000 and below. Mostly the low income earners have taken this initiative seriously and most of the residents now have decent homes," he said. Badziili said that each applicant is given P45,000 to build a house but they have to bring a quotation of all the things they will require to complete the house.

"The houses being built depend on preferences of individuals and some built two to three-bedroomed houses," he said. Special nominated councillor, Ndinani Makhulela, said that NEDC is benefitting a lot from this initiative and that the district has become known for its promotion of SHHA projects."Had it not been for shortage of water that we always experience in this district, we would have been far by now," she said.NEDC chairperson, City Kealotswe, said that since 2009 the district has undertaken 181 projects under the Turnkey Programme at a sum of P11,280,000.
