FRANCISTOWN: A 20-year-old man from Monarch appeared in court on Tuesday facing a single count of rape.

According to the charge sheet, Aobakwe George is accused of raping an underage girl on an unknown day in September 2019 in Monarch. George pleaded not guilty to the offence after the charge was read to him. Prosecutor Janet Mothowakgosi informed the court that investigations in the matter were complete and requested a date for the Case Management Conference (CMC). Mothowakgosi also indicated that she had not yet received feedback from Legal Aid Botswana regarding finding representation for George. To make progress in the matter, Mothowakgosi proposed that the accused be treated as an adult since he is no longer a minor. Senior Magistrate Tshepo Magetse set the matter for CMC on March 18.
