A woman believed to be between 40 and 45 years old has died following a road traffic accident involving a combi and a 65-seater bus in the early hours of Friday morning near Tewane village.

According to police, the crash occurred around 3am at Tewane Bridge along the A1 road when the bus attempted to overtake the combi. No. 16 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Dennis Zilawe, confirmed that the vehicles were transporting members of the Faith Gospel of Christ and Tree of Calvary churches. Zilawe said the combi was carrying 10 people, including the driver, while the bus had 36 passengers on board. The deceased was a passenger in the combi. “The remaining nine occupants of the combi sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalised at Mahalapye Hospital. All 36 passengers in the bus escaped without injury,” he said. Preliminary investigations indicate that both vehicles were travelling from Mogoditshane, with the bus heading to Ratholo village and the combi going to Gootau. Police investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
