FRANCISTOWN: In the North East District of Botswana on the west bank of Ramokgwebana River, which forms part of the border with Zimbabwe, lies a village called Matsiloje. Some people may easily recognise Matsiloje as the village where the late Radio Botswana iconic presenter Phillip ‘Mokgankgara’ Moshotle came from. Also, it is where Dickson Diratsagae Mahupela (Captain Dira in music circles) of the Mashobane song fame hails from, amongst the village’s most famous.

Apart from being a village of the Barolong tribe, Matsiloje and other nearby small settlements like Patayamatebele is also famous for being among the few places in Botswana that are situated on top of golden soils.

The Galane Gold Mine, a subsidiary of Mupane Gold Mine, is situated in the Matsiloje area.
