Speech by President Ian Khama at the State Luncheon hosted for Preisdent Salva Kiir Mayardit of South Sudan

Your Excellency, let me once again extend a very warm and special welcome to you and your delegation to Botswana. I know I speak on behalf of my government and the people of Botswana when I say how fortunate we are to have this opportunity to host you on your first ever visit to Botswana as President of the Republic of South Sudan.

Of course you have visited us before in a different capacity not so long ago, and we hope you are beginning to feel that Botswana is your second home. I wish to express my profound gratitude to you, for so readily accepting my invitation to visit Botswana despite your numerous and pressing commitments competing for your time in South Sudan. Your willingness therefore, to visit us at this critical juncture of your nation-building pursuits, demonstrates very clearly your commitment to further strengthen and deepen the strong bonds of friendship between our two countries.
