Lobatse legislator, Kamal Jacobs has withdrawn his allegations against President Duma Boko.
Jacobs stunned parliament last week claiming that he had received life threatening messages from Boko and his bodyguard. Jacobs told parliament today that he regretted making the statement and requested that it be expunged from the Hansard.
A visibly calmer Jacobs stated: “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been advising me. Mr Speaker, I would like to have the utterances I made in reference to the President of the Republic of Botswana advocate Boko expunged from the Hansard. The statement was made on March 7, 2025.”
”Upon reflection, I realise I should have dealt with this matter differently. I wish to withdraw the statement," he noted further.
The Leader of Opposition (LOO), Dumelang Saleshando, standing on a Point of Order said that Jacobs' statement was not an explanation. He said that his statement was only that he regrets what he said. "He is not exactly saying that his previous utterances were untrue. He is only saying he should have addressed it on the side lines. Where is the personal explanation here?"
However, the Speaker, Dithapelo Keorapetse explained that Jacobs made the explanation under Standing Order 43.1. In the end the speaker evoked Section 1, to expunge the matter from the Hansard. Keorapetse ruled that he was satisfied with the explanation and there should be no debate on the matter.
