As he vies for the Secretary-General (SG) position at the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)’s upcoming congress, former Molepolele South legislator, Kabo Morwaeng says he has matured and is no longer the same person he was when his party was still in power.

Morwaeng served as Member of Parliament for Molepolole South and Minister of State President from 2019 and 2024. He is often connected to BDP’s controversial bills which failed in the 12th Parliament.

Briefing the media about his quest for party leadership today, the former cabinet minister said he has changed a lot compared to the man he was more than five years ago. Morwaeng said holding a position in the cabinet has surely impacted his growth.

However, he acknowledged that the BDP didn’t listen to some advice, and in the end, that cost them the elections. Morwaeng said that as a mature person who learned a hard lesson last October, he now wants to implement some changes in the BDP constitution if he wins the SG position in Maun.

Morwaeng is often blamed for being one of the architects of BDP’s loss at the general polls in October last year. He clarified that he cannot be blamed for the loss because he was not serving any leadership position in the BDP. He indicated that he if he manages to win the SG position he will help the party to return to power in 2029.
