A member of the Bakgatla royal family, Mmusi Kgafela, the brother of Bakgatla leader Kgafela II, has denied taking part in the recent flogging of two Family of God pastors.

The two were flogged by a Bakgatla regiment in Mochudi on April 10. While the church's bishop Seamogetswe Keoleletse has told Mmegi that his pastors were whipped violently by the roadside, in the presence of Mmusi, the Bakgatla royal told Mmegi yesterday that he knows nothing about the incident because he was not there in the first place.

"I read in the papers that I was at the spot where the pastors were flogged, but I must state on record that at the time I was actually in Gaborone; I only got to hear about the incident the following day through enquiries," Mmusi said.
