The party campaigns are apparently led by State ministers who have the capacity now to traverse the length and breadth of the country chauffeur-driven on official vehicles. These are some of the perks associated with being in power. There is nothing so atypical about the Kgalagadi South constituency by-election billed for next month, but certainly it will be a cynosure of all eyes. Writes Mmegi Staffer RYDER GABATHUSE

The by-election, which was precipitated by the passing on of former area Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Micus Chimbombi, has come at an interesting time in the country’s political affairs. His death has created a vacancy that the by-election will fill on November 15.

In Dr Chimbombi, Parliament and the country generally have lost a grounded man, widely accepted across the political divide.

Don't let FMD outbreak drag on

Acting Agriculture Minister, Edwin Dikoloti, is right in saying opening an export-ready facility whilst Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is still spreading would risk getting the whole country blacklisted before a single carcass leaves the door.A ban like that would break the already stressed nation.
