Bana Ba Metsi, in partneship with Botswana Institute of Rehabilitation and Re-Integration of Offenders (BIRRO), will donate bicycles to pupils who walk long distances to and from school in Lesilakgokong and Kotolaname villages.

Bana Ba Metsi is a group of gangsters formerly known as Matsetsenkane that used to terrorise residents of Thamaga. Kotolaname and Lesilakgokong are poverty-stricken villages in the Kweneng district, some kilometres from Thamaga.

Goabaone Ramasu, one of the group members who has a robbery charge hanging over his head, said they are on a drive to show people that there is life and future after a hopeless life of crime. “As you know, we used to do despicable things and led terrible lives by causing havoc in the village of Thamaga. Many people had lost hope on us and saw us as thugs who could never be rehabilitated. But we want to repent, apologise and partake in the country’s development agenda,” he said.
