Ex-BBS employee on P500, 000 theft charge

The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) has dragged a 44-year-old former employee of Botswana Building Society (BBS) bank before the Village Magistrate to answer two 233 charges of fraud and stealing by servant.

It is alleged that Lyra Mosweu stole over half a million Pula while she was still employed as an accountant at BBS. The accused was scheduled to appear before Village Chief Magistrate, Lot Moroka, yesterday. However, the accused and DCEC's investigating officers did not turn up. This left Principal Prosecution Counsel, Merapelo Mokgosi, no options but to make new arrangements with the court for the case to come up for mention on another date. The money is alleged to have been stolen in small amounts between 2004 and 2006.
