Two suspects who escaped from lawful custody last week Thursday, Calvin Ramatlhape and Amogelang Modisaotsile have not yet been arrested.

The two, who hail from Masukujane Ward in Morwa, escaped from police who were transporting them from Village Magistrate Court to Gaborone Central Prison for remand. They were both denied bail in the case of theft of a motor vehicle, they appeared for in court. It is alleged that the two attacked police officers who were escorting them with a sharp instrument, seriously injuring a prison warder in the process. The suspects managed to escape with a police vehicle that was found the next day in an area within Tlokweng village.

A day after the incident, the police launched a manhunt on the suspects and released a statement that pleaded with members of the public to assist them with information on the whereabouts of the suspects. In an interview with Mmegi on Tuesday, BPS spokesperson Christopher Mbulawa said they had not yet arrested the two suspects, but a search is ongoing.  He also said that it is possible the suspects may commit other offences while on the run.
