MAUN: Maun adventurer, Simon Phuthego dreams to one day hoist the Botswana flag on the moon, but not before he gets to the peaks of the world’s highest mountains. He already has a head start after going up the highest mountain in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in 2014. He says now his target is to become the first Motswana ever to hoist the black, white and blue national flag at the top of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.

“I like adventure. I have always harboured an ambition to hoist the Botswana flag at the top of Kilimanjaro. It was a big achievement for me to do just that. My next challenge is now to ascend Mount Everest and go to the moon later in the future,” he adds. This year, before his dream challenge, Phuthego says he plans to climb the Elbrus in Russia, the highest peak in Russia.  He says ascending the Russian mountain will be part of the preparations required to climb Everest.  He explains that for one to climb Everest, one should have climbed less taller mountains in other continents.

Phuthego says he always loved adventure attributing this trait to the tough and adventurous life he lived in Maun as a youth and in his adulthood.
