Tshwenyego: An icon of Botswana’s arts and creative industry

Departed actor, Kgomotso Tshweneygo has been described as a distinguished cultural icon whose remarkable contribution to Botswana’s arts and creative industry touched and transformed countless lives. In a statement, the Ministry of Sports and Arts said as the nation mourns her loss, "we celebrate a life dedicated to creativity, mentorship, and community service".

The statement said Tshwenyego will be fondly remembered for her outstanding role in the Botswood Film Production Botshelo Jo, where her talent and passion left an enduring impression on audiences across the country. "Her influence extended far beyond the screen. As a former judge for the My Star television programme, she played a pivotal role in nurturing and inspiring emerging talent, providing guidance and encouragement to many young creatives who continue to excel in the fields of music, film, and theatre both locally and internationally," the ministry said.

A gifted communicator and respected community builder, the ministry stated that Tshwenyego also enriched the lives of many through her inspirational radio programmes, Tea with Kgomotso and The Family Show on Duma FM. "Her warmth, wisdom, and ability to connect with people made her a beloved voice and mentor to many." Beyond her artistic achievements, Kgomotso is described as someone who embraced an active lifestyle and was a passionate participant in the Annual Bush Walk, demonstrating her commitment to health, wellness, and community engagement. "Botswana has lost a treasured daughter, an exceptional artist, and a dedicated advocate for the development of the creative sector. Her legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and creatives for years to come.
