Save water and save lives

In recent weeks the Water Utilities Corporation has been raising the alarm about the dwindling water levels in the dams around the country.

They have even put in measures in place to try and conserve water particularly in Gaborone and the greater Gaborone areas. The Corporation has issued a schedule which indicates how they are going to be rationing water. While this is going on the dams' levels continue to drop.  Last week, WUC took the media on a guided tour of the Gaborone and Bokaa Dams to make them appreciate this critical situation.  Gaborone Dam can only sustain the city for the next 10 months, provided the rains come in time.  This is a serious situation that we find ourselves in.  It calls for all of us to join hands with WUC to help them save the little water that we have for the benefit of all of us.  There is no time for procrastination on this matter.

Each one of us in their homesteads should do their bit and make sure that water is not wasted.  Just like the Botswana Power Corporation always advice on turning off unused lights, we are encouraged that we do the same with water.  Let us make sure that taps are closed all the times and if there is a leak, it should be reported so that maintenance can be carried out.  Every drop counts.  If we save water, we will save lives.
