Name sport facilities after our athletes

In 2010, Amantle Montsho brought gold from the India Commonwealth Games and this was a first for this country.

In the just ended Olympic games in London, United Kingdom, Nigel Amos raised this country's flag once again when he made history as the first Motswana to bring a medal (silver) from such games. Just early this year, the Zebras made their maiden appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Many other sport codes have done exceptionally well in their respective high-level competitions. These achievements make a good case for Botswana athletes to be recognised much more than we are doing currently.

Whereas efforts have been made in the past to show appreciation for the sportspersons' efforts, there is a bigger need now for this country to recognise our sportspersons in general by naming some of the sports facilities after. This will be lifetime recognition for these athletes and this will go a long way towards motivating upcoming athletes and even the current crop of athletes. The recent exploits by Amantle and Nigel have put Botswana in the world stage of athletics. Unlike in the past where Botswana was hardly mentioned at such big events, in the last couple of years, Botswana is mentioned among the big countries and it is precisely due to the efforts of these athletes.
