Orapa to be turned into a tourism hub

FRANCISTOWN: The mining town of Orapa will in future be transformed into a tourism hub. The Debswana's Orapa and Letlhakane Mines (OLM) General Manager Andrian Gale made the revelation in his welcome remarks over the weekend in Orapa, at the annual General Manager's sponsored walk, which is organised to raise funds for charity.

Gale said the move to turn Orapa into a greater tourist destination is part of the mine's vision, dubbed 'Orapa today and tomorrow'.

"The main objective of the project is to turn Orapa into the hub of the Boteti region," he said. He explained that this course of action is anticipated to bring direct wealth to the people of Boteti, as they will secure jobs and open businesses to support the tourism sector, after the mine's life span has elapsed. Gale believes that the mine has already started working on its objectives to transform the mine into a tourism destination.
