Mowana mine's output improving, reports African copper

Botswana-focused miner African Copper would continue to make improvements to the plant at its flagship Mowana mine, with the implementation of additional mobile crushers already paying off.

The mine had produced 6,4-million tons of copper concentrate in the fifteen months ended March 31, 2010, with African Copper noting that production levels had further improved in May and June, as a result of the end of the rainy season and the additional mobile crushing capacity.

Production at the mine was restarted in August, after it had been placed on care-and-maintenance in early 2009, owing to the fall in commodity prices. The plant had come close to meeting its operating targets in October, but the secondary and tertiary crusher had suffered equipment breakdowns and their performance had been negatively impacted on by adverse weather conditions.
