Tati East MP Samson Moyo Guma has expressed shock at the considerable reduction of the amount of money spent to construct the Kang - Hukuntsi road. At the sitting of the Public Accounts Committee on Friday, Moyo said he suspected something was irregular with the tender.

His comments followed a report presented before the committee, which indicated that although the tender was awarded at half a billion pula, the road ended up costing only around P300 million."Something is fishy here, can the accounting officer tell us how this happened," Moyo said. The permanent secretary in the ministry of transport and communications Tsaone Thebe could not provide the answer saying she was not privy to the situation.

Chinese company Sinohydro constructed the road. Moyo also expressed his displeasure at the secrecy surrounding the East-West rail corridor, which is intended to connect Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Botswana to the Namibian port. "There is so much secrecy around the project, are you negotiating with any companies?" Moyo asked Thebe.Thebe responded that currently Botswana and Mozambique are still in negotiations on the implementation of a feasibility study and that no private company  is involved.
