FNB launches prepaid electricity service

The First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) has introduced additional payment channels that will allow customers to purchase electricity round the clock in collaboration with the Botswana Power Corporation's (BPC) super vendor, Botswana Post.FNBB has introduced virtual purchases to provide pre-paid electricity to all VISA and mastercard credit and debit cardholders irrespective of issuing bank. Currently, the card-based method is available to beMobile users only through the FNBB cellphone banking channel.

Speaking at the Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony in Gaborone yesterday, FNBB public sector segment and e-solutions business director Yolisa Phillips-Lejowa said they are pleased to add the channels, which seek to eliminate cash as the primary means of payment across Botswana."Any customer can now securely and conveniently purchase prepaid electricity through the card-based method.Customers do not have to queue to make purchases, the channels are operational 365 days and 24 hours unlike conventional methods of payment and provide real time update on the customer's bank account," she said.
