Botswana tariffs throttle Zim borehole exporter

HARARE: Chizmark Engineering and Services, a Zimbabwean company that secured dozens of orders for boreholes when it exhibited at this year's BOCCIM Northern Trade Fair, is struggling to meet its orders because of high customs duties.

Chizmark Engineering and Services is a relatively small company that manufactures mainly boreholes and works in general fabrication.

The company's Operations Manager, Joseph Gumbo, said Chizmark has established a firm market base in Botswana for its boreholes, but the biggest challenge was customs duty of P2 000 for every consignment.
