The President's Day art competition opened at Thapong Visual Arts Centre on Wednesday pitting young creative minds against the best of the flock.

Submitted pieces have revealed especially that many bidding artists have a gone an extra mile this time in improvising different materials to create objects that will blow an art admirer's mind. One of the pieces displayed on the walls of the art centre is one by Monkgogi Samson's Our People in which he made a collage of prominent local political figures like President Ian Khama, BMD leader Gomilemo Motswaledi and other eminent players like BDP strongman, Daniel Kwelagobe.

A demonstration of how man can easily turn environmentally damaging waste into useful materials is on Onkemetse Bailelwang's small women's handbags. Most people love the Smoothes mint sweets for their throat soothing effect. Bailelwang is more interested in the covers as they give her a creative edge.
