Fete de la Musique, now in its 11th year running in Botswana, will see over 40 artists performing at this year's popular extravaganza. Most of the artists on the line-up are proudly local artists, with just a handful being international acts.

The annual French event has been in existence since 1982 and gives both professional and amateur artists the platform to showcase their talents. Although in France artists traditionally invade the streets, courtyards, gardens and stations to bring music to the people; Botswana's Fete de la Musique will be held at Botswanacraft stage on June 29.Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Alliance Francaise Botswana Director Antoine Courroy said this year's festival will be bigger and better since they have registered more artists and have attracted more sponsors. He explained  that in addition to musicians, dancers and other performing artists have also registered, thus bringing wealth of diversity to the festival.

Furthermore, Courroy said Alliance Francaise in Botswana has the responsibility to share French culture with Batswana. He said: "We are also thankful to Batswana artists for registering to perform, although they are performing for free with no monetary gains."Two artists of the many artists who are billed to perform at the festival were present at the press conference; Shanti Lo (Tumediso Loeto) and Samantha Mogwe expressed their excitement about performing at the show. Mogwe said aside from her love of music, she saw it fit to perform at the festival because she cannot resist the opportunity to share the stage with artists of varying genres and diverse backgrounds. Shanti Lo will be performing at Fete de la Musique for the first time and he is also looking forward to performing at the festival. He said he is glad the festival will give upcoming artists a chance to market themselves. Some of the artists who will be performing include; Kabo Leburu, Nnunu Ramogotsi, Mophato Dance Theatre, BDF Band, Machesa Traditional Group, DJ Spinz and Clement Jackson among others.
