Lizibo releases sizzling debut album

Afro-pop crooner, Lizibo Simon, has solidified his growing brand as a soulful singer a' la Tshepo Lesole, Kayzee and that rare ilk of musos in the country's musical scene. It is a feat he has pulled off with ease on his debut outing entitled Better Man.

Credit for the record's consistent ring of maturity and solid musicianship goes to the production team, and of course in no small way, Lizibo's vocal delivery. Award winning producer and fellow crooner, Lesole was on the controls when Lizibo put his vocal chops to tape in the booth for this production.Lizibo's cameo roles on works featuring talents such as Eureka, Lesole and Kayzee on projects like Re Mmogo have evidently primed him for the big stage.  Although Better Man does not reinvent the wheel, it is the tight musicianship on display; both on instrumentation, vocals and post-production values that rank it up there with Afro-pop royalty here and across the border.  The album sleeve also complements the artistry of the work. It is a crisp industry standard design that captures the Afro urban feel of the record. This is an oft-neglected part of the production cycle by many a musician, despite that the sleeve is the first port of contact the consumer has to the artist. A sleeve can relatively make or break an artist: It may be that variable between getting a "hearing" or not. Thankfully, this is one aspect Lizibo can peacefully go to sleep over. The singer proves to be an imaginative burgeoning songwriter in Better Man. Songs like Ke Lerato La Kae and Nteletsa see him showing a sense of creative edginess that speaks to today's relationship dynamics.

If properly marketed, Makhulobus and Style provide an opportunity for the young man to have a career in music. The tunes carry familiar yet catchy melodic patterns that will resonate with many who like this pentatonic based groove music. Lizibo also carries a tune well in Ikalanga on Wa Ka Naka. It would be interesting to see if he would sing increasingly in this, his native language on his sophomore work.Notably, the credit roll is studded with stars such as Vee and Zeus.
