How the Battle of Dimawe shaped Botswana

It was here that the famous Battle of Dimawe was fought. The battle saw the Batswana tribes of Bakwena, Bahurutshe, Balete and Batlokwa defeat the Boers of Transvaal.
A visit to the battle site is quite an experience. It gives any local a great sense of pride, because of the victory Batswana had over the evils of that turbulent period when white supremacists abused blacks.
It is a clear signal that the government’s purse is empty and that our own behaviour has left veterinary officials fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. We have been here before. During COVID-19, many of us thought we knew better. We ignored simple rules, we carried on as if the danger was someone else’s problem, and the virus took lives and left our economy on its knees.
