Afro jazz songbird Nnunu goes solo

After working for other artists for quite some time, Afro jazz songbird Nnunu Ramogotsi has decided to become her own boss.

Nnunu used to be a backing singer for Afro jazz artists such as Ndingo Johwa.  She is also a member of the Women Of Jazz ensemble, which is made up of Punah Gabasiane, Kearoma Rantao and herself.  It is not surprising that the two Women Of Jazz feature on Nnunu's album as they have always supported one another on their individual projects.

Nnunu has embarked on a solo career and the result is the release of her album, Mmasonoko.  On Thursday last week, Nnunu invited a select audience to the President Hotel for her album's premiere.  The guests were treated to a live performance of songs in the album.  Nnunu's album is a clear statement that she has matured as an artist after travelling a long journey.  The album, which is inspired by Nnunu's Gamalete culture, is not a disappointment.  For somebody who has been in the industry for quite sometime, the album was long overdue.  But Nnunu decided to take her time so that she could come up with the right formula. To prove your worth as an artist you have to release an album just like an author has to publish, seems to be her philosophy.  You are judged by the value of your work and Nnunu has not failed in this regard.  In fact, her album has overnight transformed her into one of the country's foremost ladies of song.
