FRANCISTOWN: Orapa United coach, Gadimang Tiiso, said his team is on a learning curve since it is their maiden appearance in the group stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederations cup

. Orapa United were held to a goalless draw by ASC Jaraaf in the continental competition played at the Obed Itani Chilume on Sunday. “I am very happy with how my boys applied themselves. Games of this magnitude are difficult to play but there is light at the end of the tunnel because we now know how teams in our group play. The teams play a similar style of football. We are optimistic about going further in the tournament and we will go back to the drawing board to see how we can improve because we are not converting our goal scoring opportunities,” Tiiso said. T he draw was the second one for the Ostriches after they played to a goalless draw against ASEC Mimosas last week at home.

The Ostriches have not scored a goal in three games. In the first game of the group stages, they were humiliated 6-0 by USM Alger of Algeria. The Sunday draw leaves Orapa in a precarious situation because they have only one home game left against USM who convincingly defeated ASEC 3-0 on Sunday. Orapa started the game on a high note creating chances in the first few minutes of the game but just like in the previous game against ASEC, they were let down by poor finishing. The game was a marked improvement from their last game against ASEC since they managed to have shots on target. Jaraaf, who enjoyed a slight ball possession than the hosts, also had numerous chances to score but they were not clinical in front of the goalposts in either half. Only a handful of fans attended the game. Jaraaf coach, Malick Daf, said he was disappointed with the draw since they came to Botswana to collect three points in order to position themselves for advancing further in the competition. “We came here with the expectation to collect maximum points but that did not happen. I am not happy with how my players applied themselves but we need to improve in order to win games,” said Daf.

When claims of such gravity are made, especially by a sitting Assistant Minister they cannot be brushed aside, delayed, or treated as routine political noise. Even the Ombudsman has confirmed receipt of a report from a political party and a review of these complaints is now underway. That is a necessary first step. But it is only the beginning. The seriousness of the allegations demands urgency, transparency and clarity. The public is entitled to...
