BFA promises to take action on BFL standoff

The recent standoff between Botswana Football League (BFL) board and the shareholders has caught the attention of the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC).

The BFL convened its annual general meeting (AGM) last weekend, a week after the initial one failed to proceed due to a lack of quorum. At the centre of the deadlock was the decision by some sections of the shareholders to call for the removal of the board’s leadership, with Sipho Showa at the helm as the chairperson.

The AGM was initially scheduled for August 1, a week before the BFA’s general assembly.

The situation is exacerbated by the ruling party’s admission that some of its most important election promises remain unfulfilled. This is not the change many Batswana had expected. The UDC was elected into power on a strong promise to improve lives, create jobs, protect workers and repair public services.
