Swimming ends the year with a bang

Africa Youth Games Medallist: Saleshando

Local swimmers have proven how well it prepared for the Africa Youth Games that come to an end tomorrow in Luanda, Angola, making swimming the first code to win four medals for Team Botswana. Melodi Saleshando was the showstopper, scooping three medals: silver in 50m butterfly, bronze in 50m backstroke, and another bronze in 50m freestyle.

Matipaishe Gondo claimed a silver medal after powering to a new Personal Best (PB) of 28.05 in the 50m breaststroke. Gondo has set a new national record for the 15–16-year age group.

President of the Botswana Swimming Sport Association (BSSA), Kgaotsang Matthews, told MmegiSport that the performance of the swimmers is a confirmation that the swimming development programme is working.
