African Hero Top 8 roars to life :: Mmegi Online

Six years after disappearing from the domestic football calendar, the Top 8 competition returns this weekend with a new identity, a record P1.5 million winners' prize and eight clubs carrying contrasting fortunes into the battle for knockout supremacy.

Now known as the African Hero Top 8, the competition makes its comeback with four quarter-final encounters spread across three days, bringing together former champions, struggling giants, familiar faces, and ambitious challengers seeking to break the established order.

The tournament was last contested in the 2019–2020 season, when Orapa United defeated Township Rollers on penalties to claim their second title. Unlike previous editions, which featured two-legged quarterfinals and semifinals, the revived competition adopts a single-leg knockout format, leaving no room for recovery. Each team needs just three victories to lift the trophy.
